Here is a list of Canada's frequently asked questions and the answers to each.

What does Insurance Gully stand for?

Insurance Gully is an independent Canadian insurance brokerage agency and we distribute medical insurance policies produced by leading, trusted Canadian Insurance companies.

How can I change the effective date on an existing insurance policy?

Yes, you can send us a request to change the start date for you. Please, make sure you do it before the current effective date.
As for the policy extension/renewal, you need to notify us before the expiry date on your current insurance plan so you can avoid the waiting period when you receive your extension.

What is the explanation of Deductible mean?

Deductible is the amount of money that must be paid out of pocket before an insurer will pay any expenses. Deductible amount also affects the actual price of the insurance policy. The higher deductible you choose, the lower the actual price of the policy will be. However, it is not recommended to go over a $1,000 deductible since you may end up paying most of your medical expenses yourself, unless the claim bill exceeds the chosen deductible option.

Are refunds generated if I return home before my insurance expires?

Yes, you will be eligible for a partial refund in case there were no claims made.
Partial refunds are issued for the unused time on your policy period. If you stay in Canada just 4 months and did not file a claim, you will be reimbursed for the remaining 8 months.

Please, contact our Insurance Advisors in order to make a Refund Request.

Is the Insurance Gully medical insurance applicable nationwide?

Yes, almost all of the Visitors to Canada / Super Visa / IEC policies are Canada wide.
However, there is a single company called “GMS” that is not yet available for use in Quebec.

What are the different types of life insurance offered by InsuranceGully?

The best life insurance policy is one that’s right for you and your loved ones. At its most basic, life insurance provides financial support if you can no longer be there.

There are two types of life insurance: Term and Permanent. Term life insurance lasts for a specified period of time and is typically used for temporary needs like a mortgage and children’s education costs. Permanent life insurance lasts throughout your life time. Here are some life insurance basics to help you get started.

Can you explain the difference between term and permanent life insurance?

Term life insurance offers protection that ends at a predetermined age or time. It has the lower initial cost, but premiums increase at each renewal.

Permanent life insurance has no expiry date and the premiums don’t change over the life of the policy. Permanent life also includes an investment component through universal and whole life coverage. Find out more.

If I am declined life insurance, what options do I have?

There are options available to people who have been declined coverage. Talk your Financial Advisor and see if there’s a solution that meets your needs.

Pre-existing Medical Condition - what does it mean?

Generally, pre-existing conditions are defined as any sickness, injury or medical condition, for which you have consulted with a doctor, have shown symptoms, have been hospitalized or were prescribed medications before the effective date of the medical coverage you are currently applying for.

Each insurance company regards pre-existing conditions differently. Stability period may vary from 6 to 12 months, depending on the company’s policy.

It is extremely important to read the exclusion/definition section in the insurance policy booklet for detailed description.

Are regular doctor/clinic visits and physical examinations covered for Super Visa Medical Insurance, and for Visitors to Canada?

Unfortunately, all of the mentioned policy types do not cover any regular check ups or doctor/clinic visits, as only medical emergencies are covered.

What are the taxes for medical coverage distributed by Insurance Gully?

There are absolutely no taxes unless you purchase the policy as the resident of Manitoba. RST rate is about 8%.

How is Medical Emergency defined?

Medical Emergency means an unforeseen sickness or injury that requires immediate treatment to prevent or alleviate existing danger to life or health.

In case of emergencies, what should one do?

First of all, you have to notify your insurance company as soon as possible of any emergency medical treatment or hospitalization.
Your insurer will provide you with assistance, suggest the best options on where to get help, as well as arrange direct billing where possible.

Failure to do so could result in decreasing your insurance benefit. Every insurance company has a toll free emergency phone number to call from
Canada and collect call numbers to call from anywhere else. The phone numbers are always included in the policy.

What are some of the things that can impact my life insurance rates?

Your age, gender, smoking status, health status―and potentially family history―determine the rate you will pay.

Can one person possess more than one life policy?

Yes, there are no limits on the number of policies you can have. You will, however, be required to provide financial justification, and an “income need” test if your request for coverage far outstrips your income.
